Riverfront Park - Fall Edition

Fall, it's my favorite season of all.  I couldn't let another hike through my hometown Riverfront Park go by without viewing  this beautiful scenery.  It was a crisp day with perfect temperatures to enjoy the colorful leaves and inviting smells of nature in autumn.  We are so fortunate to have this park and hiking trail in our own backyard.  If you're visiting Houlton, Maine, check it out.

Peaks-Kenny State Park

After the rather grueling Gulf Hagas experience the day before, we decided to go "ovah to Dovah" for a leisurely and extremely warm stroll at Peaks-Kenny State Park.  This is our 3rd State Park this summer so we are on a roll!

Peaks-Kenny is located on the beautiful sandy shore of Sebec Lake in Dover-Foxcroft.  The park offers 10 miles of hiking trails, picnicking, boating, swimming and camping in a beautiful natural setting. Voted Best Lakeside Sate Park (Editor's Choice Award from Yankee Magazine - May/June 2016),  this is definitely a must see.  A bit off the beaten path (or at least mine), it is well worth the trip to visit this fairy-land like hike.

Gulf Hagas

It was a long day of roots, rocks, and raindrops but well worth the trip.  A true test of our ability to stretch and balance on some very slippery spots.  Hiked the Rim Trail and looped around for a total of about 7 miles.  Longest hike yet this summer and clearly the most treacherous.  Everyone came out unscathed with the exception of yours truly who slipped and knocked my head against a rock resulting in a quick forming purple lump.  So far so good.
I highly recommend this hike but wait for the sun to shine.
Tomorrow is another day of adventure so stay tuned!

Riverfront Park

Another interim hike between State Park visits happened today in my hometown with two childhood friends.  If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Houlton, make sure and stop at the Riverfront Park.  Enjoy sculptures, picnic tables, a playground, an amazing walking bridge and a brand new walking trail along the beautiful Meduxnekeag River.  It was a hot July day, but the company and the scenery made the 3+ miles worth the hike.

Thanks to all the hard work of community members, we have this beautiful park to enjoy and share with visitors to our town Houlton, Maine.
