Riverfront Park

Another interim hike between State Park visits happened today in my hometown with two childhood friends.  If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Houlton, make sure and stop at the Riverfront Park.  Enjoy sculptures, picnic tables, a playground, an amazing walking bridge and a brand new walking trail along the beautiful Meduxnekeag River.  It was a hot July day, but the company and the scenery made the 3+ miles worth the hike.

Thanks to all the hard work of community members, we have this beautiful park to enjoy and share with visitors to our town Houlton, Maine.

Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park

So Freeport is not just for shopping!  Who knew that this 200 acre park is located within minutes of the popular tourist destination featuring our most famous store, LL Bean?  So take a break from the hustle and bustle and put on those brand new hiking shoes, don that backpack you just purchased, and head on over to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park.

We're moving a bit slowly on our quest to visit all the State Parks in Maine but we did get to check this little gem off our list.  Wolfe's Neck Woods is pure tranquility.  If you're looking for a stroll in nature that takes you along the rocky shores of Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River, this if for you.  Osprey nesting is a special treat you'll view along the way.  I learned that these graceful birds summer in Maine and head to South America in the winter.  I knew they made backpacks but now I know they summer in our beautiful sunshine!  It's worth the trip folks, and much better for your overall wellbeing than spending more money on things you don't really need! ;-)
