Riverfront Park

Another interim hike between State Park visits happened today in my hometown with two childhood friends.  If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Houlton, make sure and stop at the Riverfront Park.  Enjoy sculptures, picnic tables, a playground, an amazing walking bridge and a brand new walking trail along the beautiful Meduxnekeag River.  It was a hot July day, but the company and the scenery made the 3+ miles worth the hike.

Thanks to all the hard work of community members, we have this beautiful park to enjoy and share with visitors to our town Houlton, Maine.

Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park

So Freeport is not just for shopping!  Who knew that this 200 acre park is located within minutes of the popular tourist destination featuring our most famous store, LL Bean?  So take a break from the hustle and bustle and put on those brand new hiking shoes, don that backpack you just purchased, and head on over to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park.

We're moving a bit slowly on our quest to visit all the State Parks in Maine but we did get to check this little gem off our list.  Wolfe's Neck Woods is pure tranquility.  If you're looking for a stroll in nature that takes you along the rocky shores of Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River, this if for you.  Osprey nesting is a special treat you'll view along the way.  I learned that these graceful birds summer in Maine and head to South America in the winter.  I knew they made backpacks but now I know they summer in our beautiful sunshine!  It's worth the trip folks, and much better for your overall wellbeing than spending more money on things you don't really need! ;-)

Not hiking at a Maine State Park today but keeping up with nature in my own back yard.  If you don't know about Wilderness Pines Campground & Outfitters you're missing out on a beautiful spot to enjoy sun, water and fun.  This is where I walk/run when I'm home.  Kim

Lamoine State Park

As I mentioned in my earlier post, my friend, Martha, and I have set a goal to hike the Maine State Parks.  Joined by another childhood friend, Susie, we began our journey visiting Lamoine State Park in Lamoine, Maine.  Our first discovery was that Maine has hidden gems that most of its residents probably don't know exist.  We hope to share our discoveries so that you might enjoy them through our eyes or plan your own list.

Lamoine State Park is a 55 acre park not far from the beautiful and popular tourist town of Bar Harbor, Maine.  It's oceanside grounds offer meandering trails and campsites that take you away from the crowded streets nearby.

A few miles down the road we discovered a long stretch of quiet secluded beach where we had a chance to bask in the warm sun practically by ourselves.

Can't wait for our next adventure!

I'm Back!

It's been a while since I've written a post on this blog.  I started four years ago when Sarah and I were hiking el Camino de Santiago in Spain.  When we began I soon discovered that indeed the Camino was a difficult road for me.  I had every intention of documenting our journey on this blog, however, it didn't happen.  It was an amazing adventure that I did document on FaceBook (1000 pictures plus captions), but it didn't happen here. What it did do, is lead to a beautiful place with a lot of memories.

I'm back now with some very close friends to continue to be challenged on this road called life.  My long time friend, Martha, and I have made a plan to hike/visit all the State parks in our beautiful State of Maine and share our adventures here.  I hope you enjoy our journey.
